The Power of Play

Summer News 2018
The Academy of Maryland Farms is excited to reintroduce our summer program, The Power of Play. As quoted by the Department of Education in a Literature Review,” There has been an abundance of research around play and its positive effects on early childhood learning and development. In general, research shows strong links between creative play and language, physical, cognitive, and social development. Play is a healthy, essential part of childhood. Infants explore their world through their senses while adults in their world foster their development and learning through playing games with them. Toddlers engage in pretend play when they imitate actions and events they have experienced in their family life. As they grow into four and five year old, young children engage more and more in play activities that expand their knowledge of the world around them, develop their motor skills and focus on their peers.”

We are excited to be able to allow your children to grow and learn here at The Academy. Our weekly themes that we will focus on through play are as follows:  The Power of Outdoors, The Power of Nature, The Power of Sensory, The Power of Science, The Power of Reading, The Power of Connecting, The Power of Math, The Power of Blocks, The Power of Music, The Power of Movement, The Power of Dramatic Play, and the Power of Art. Each week we will have special activities implemented by our educators to assist each child while they learn through play about the items. Each child will be able to learn at their own pace and gain memories for many years to come.

A new area of highlight of the summer program will be introducing Provocations through literacy for our Toddlers, Preschools, and PreK classrooms. These are open ended activities that don’t have a prescribed outcome, instead it is designed to stimulation ideas, initiative and imagination for the children. We know that this addition to the summer program will help grasp the curious minds of our eager to learn children and help them develop ever more.
